Sylvia Rains Dennis, a professional botanist from the Southern Rocky Mountain region, will present a native plant approach to creating a landscape based on sustainable garden rooms, with a poetic spin on these well-loved heroes of folklore and adaptability. The palette of possibilities and the plant personalities are beautiful options for creative, enjoyable landscape design. Sylvia celebrates her lifelong connections to wild homelands and land-based people through intergenerational, multicultural collaborative work that emphasizes our shared belonging to the natural world. She holds a BS in Botany, with graduate research and certification in forest ecology, rare species, biodiversity conservation, wildlife habitat and wetland restoration; additional degrees include a Master's degree and PhD studies in English, languages, and theater. Currently serving as the Taos Poet Laureate with an extensive history in biodiversity conservation and undergraduate education, she leads the Taos Almanac Project and enjoys engaging in community projects, talking circles, and diverse gatherings.
