At our August meeting we will learn about the benefits of goat herds on our land.  Chamisa Goatworks operates from a perspective of humility and mirroring of nature, a fundamental principle of regenerative agriculture. We are at the beginning of experimenting and observing our impact and role in the complex, resilient strategies for allowing revitalization in Northern New Mexico’s ecosystems. The herd of 18 goats are based in Arroyo , but are contracted out to farmers, ranchers and homeowners. The discussion will touch upon how it may affect biodiversity of plants, weed control, and soil health and fire mitigation.

Goatworks was cofounded by Sofia Greenberg and Sierra Hardy in 2023. Best friends raised in Taos, Sofia and Sierra have cumulatively 20 years in sustainable farming and agriculture as well as restoration forestry. Having been best friends for many years and collaborated on many land stewardship endeavors, they decided to create a regenerative goat grazing operation in 2023. With much help from friends, they built a small herd and began to graze sites for weed control, fire mitigation, and soil health.

Monthly Los Jardineros meetings are open to the public, so invite a friend who might be interested in joining Los Jardineros.
