“We wanted our courtyard to be a peaceful oasis of color, in contrast to the stark high desert landscape just outside the gate. It has a large koi pond, a fire pit, stone benches, and meandering walkways, allowing 3 season enjoyment of the outdoors. It was designed in 2006-7 by Martin Mosko, of Marpa Design Studio in Boulder, Colorado and was built by Ben Edwards of Earthtones in Taos. Martin Mosko is a Buddhist monk and is nationally known for his designs, including a meditation garden for the Dalai Lama. As people are always in a hurry we wanted our courtyard to make one slow down and take in the sights. The mosaic mural over the hot tub adds lots of color and symbolizes the earth from brown to snow-covered mountains and blue sky. It was designed and made by Laurie Peters from Elgin, Illinois. We daily see the courtyard as an oasis.
The back patio will be open so people can look down and listen to the Rio Pueblo just before it connects with the Rio Grande.”
