Meetings & Events

 
Meetings are usually held every 3rd Thursday (February - October) at Taos Tennis (Highway 150) in the meeting room at the back of the clubhouse starting at 9:30am for coffee, snacks, and socializing.  The business meeting starts at 10am, followed by the featured presentation.

EXCEPTIONS: no meetings are held in July and August because of Member's-Only Tour (2nd Thursday in July) and the annual public Los Jardineros  Garden & Home Tour (first Saturday in August.)

    Our March speaker is Dan Jones discussing "Irrigation From a Plant's Perspective."

    Dan Jones, with a degree in landscape horticulture, has designed and maintained landscapes in Denver and Taos.  He provides inspired landscape design, masterful hand pruning, and garden coaching in the Taos area.  He is passionate about setting controllers to provide sufficient water while conserving it as much as possible.  His program will be about proper watering techniques, particularly irrigation.  His website is beyondwildflowers.com.

    The speaker at our April meeting will be George Miller discussing "Save a Place for Wildlife."

    Georg Miller is an environmental photojournalist, naturalist, and author of "Landscaping with Native Plants of the Southwest."  He has written field guides and smart phone apps for wildflowers of New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, and Southern California.  Currently, he is the president of the Albuquerque chapter of the Native Plant Society of New Mexico.  Human housing disrupts the complex web of life from soil microorganisms to butterflies, bees, birds and small mammals that once lived here.  George will discuss the backyard basics of plants that will create an oasis for wildlife in a desert of gravel, lawns, alien plants, pavement and parking lots.     Carol Wildman will be our speaker at the May meeting.  She will discuss "Landscaping and Design in Taos."

    Carol, a Stanford grad and owner of Taos Landscaping, has been designing and building gardens since 1980.  She specializes in water saving, drought tolerant, low maintenance landscapes that are customized to a specific location and outdoor living style.  She will discussing how she goes about creating the right plan and design for an individual site.  Her website is taoslandscaping.com.

    Our speaker will be Sheila Ross discussing "Taos Floral Design."

    Sheila mastered Event Floral Design and hand-tied bouquets in Paris.  With 40 years of experience, she has also studied ikebana (the Japanese art of flower arrangement) - that dates back to the seventh century when floral offerings were made to altars.  Her studio is out of her home.  She loves to interact with a client to create a perfect arrangement for a wedding or any other special event.  She will not only demonstrate her personal style of floral design, but will bring some of her creations so members can buy them.  Her website is taosfloraldesigns.com

    Our speaker will be Kristi Vine discussing "Small Scale Design with Fruit Trees and Vegetables."

    Kristi (owner of Verdant Gardens) has been designing/planting gardens in the Taos area since 2000.  She is very knowledgeable about climates and sub-climates in this area, making her an expert in what is needed in soil amendments so that the garden thrives.  She will be discussing how to create your own source of food with fruit trees and vegetables while producing a high yield from a limited space.
