We have asked Melinda Bateman from Morning Star Farm of Taos to be our speaker for the May meeting. She will be speaking to us about Biodynamic Farming, a holistic approach to agriculture, its key principles including natural composting, special soil preparations, biodiversity, and a plant calendar based on lunar and cosmic cycles.

Born in Oregon, Melinda began working for farmers at the age of 12. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Oregon and has owned and operated Morning Star Farm for 34 years. She was the fifth farmer to register for the New Mexico Organic certification program. Melinda served on the Farmer’s Market Board and ran a CSA for twelve years during which time the membership more than doubled from 30 to 75 members. She became interested in Biodynamic farming in 1996 and has participated in various courses and conferences over the past 30 years. Currently, Melinda facilitates the New Mexico Biodynamic preparation making group.
