This month's speaker is Corilia Ortega. She will be sharing her experience as a first time grower using an acequia system in the face of climate change and water shortages. Although she has only been growing food for 4 years, she has re-established two linderos to two separate fallow properties (on opposite ends of the County!) in order to grow food and contribute to the food systems in Taos. Join in and learn about her journey-- detailing the lessons learned, hard work, research, relationship building, and planning for flood irrigation in two different communities. She'll be sure to have a brief Acequias 101 for those who are curious about the communal water sharing system in our valley.

Corilia is the Community Outreach Coordinator for Alianza Agri-Cultura de Taos, where most of her time is used assisting agricultural landowners and growers cultivate their properties, organizing workshops and events, and bringing our agricultural community together. She is also a member of the National Young Farmer Coalition and a NYFC Land Fellow Advocate, is the Co-Organizer for the Talpa Community Market, and she was recently elected to Town Council and is the Town's representative for the Vigil y Romo Ditch, Taos County Cooperative Weed Management Area, and Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area.
