We are arranging, with the immense help of our Tour Venue Coordinator, Lawrence Baker, a series of Members Only Garden Tours.  For each tour, you will need to make a reservation so that we can ease the parking situation for the homeowner.  The tours will be of the garden only.  When you make your reservation you will receive directions to the garden.

The garden of the President of the Taos Chapter of the Native Plant Society features…you guessed it…native plants of the Southwest with a non-native or two thrown in as a nod to diversity.  Needless to say, beautiful and endless mountain views over sagebrush and chamisa are what you would expect in the Country Club area.  The large corner rock garden has specimen rocks, gravel mulch and two “false” arroyos for interest.  Look for the chocolate flower to get a whiff of real chocolate.  Other natives include 5-6 varieties of Penstemon, Apache plume, desert zinnia, sulphur buckwheat, Lambert’s locoweed and yellow evening primrose. A Kansas hawthorn tree and pinyon pine add vertical interest.  With luck, the Santa Fe cholla and other species of cacti will be in bloom. The blooms of many other natives will come later: fernbush, 3-leaf sumac lo-gro, Mojave sage (Salvia pachyphylla), desert four-o-clock, dwarf sundrops, winecups and prickly poppy. Feel free to wander through the gate and around the house for more planting beds and an aspen grove in the northeast corner.
